Usually at this location history is recreated with the re-enactment of the cheese markets; however, today Beemster was creating the history. At noon today a horse drawn wagon came into the historic cheese market carrying a cheese created July 7th, 2006.
The crowd watched intensely as the forklift got into position to remove the cheese from the horse drawn wagon. The enormous wheel was carefully lowered onto the traditional custom’s house scales.
The representative from the Guinness Book of World Records stood by as weights were added to the scale to bring the wheel of cheese off of the ground to an equilibrium on the historic scale.
